The Auggie Women’s Basketball team ended their season with a win against Macalester College last Saturday at Si Melby Hall, defeating the Scotts 77-75. However, because they lost to St. Kate’s the previous Wednesday, they were not eligible for the MIAC playoffs.
The Auggies finished the season 12-12 while going 8-10 in the MIAC. Tamira McLemore led the Auggies in scoring averaging 13.7 points per game. She was also the team’s leader in steals with 2.5 per game and assists with 3.0 per game. Camryn Speese was the team leader, rebounding with 5.0 per game, and Abby Jordan led in blocks piling up 16 on the season. The Auggies graduate only one senior, Bridget Bednar, so the experienced Auggies should put together a strong season next year.
The Auggie Men’s Basketball team also wrapped up their regular season with a win against Macalester College last Saturday, demolishing the Scotts 109-69. With the win, the Auggies clinched the #4 seed in the MIAC tournament.
The Auggies finished the regular season with an 18-7 record while going 13-7 in MIAC play. Collin Olmscheid was a force to be reckoned with when he had the ball in his hands. He led the team in scoring with 20 points per game. He was also the leader in both field goal percentage and free throw percentage. Transfer Booker Coplin led the team in rebounds with 6.4 per game and steals with 2.0 per game. Harry Sonnie was the top assist man with 4.1 per game. The Auggies will be graduating 4 seniors, including three starters and senior star Collin Olmscheid who led the MIAC in scoring. Look for underclassmen players to step in and fill some big shoes next season.
The Auggie’s hosted St. Thomas on Wednesday, defeating the Tommie’s and advancing to the semi-finals. A match up at St. Johns awaits the Auggie’s Friday Night.
