The Augsburg men’s golf team traveled up north this past weekend to compete in the St. John’s University Fall Invitational, finishing 17th in the 17-school, 22-team tournament.
Senior Brett Buckingham was the top golfer for the Auggies over the weekend, finishing with a 7-over-par 150 total which put him in a tie for 22nd. On his second day, a score of 70 matched his lowest round of the season. He was just one of four golfers to finish in the top 48 in the tournament.
First-year River Goodmanson also tallied a season personal best total score of 151, which put him in a tie for 25th place, and fellow first year Gavin Metz finished in a tie for 36th with a total score of 153. Senior Harrison Cooper was the fourth golfer in the top 48 with a total score of 156, putting him in a tie for 48th. The fifth and final golfer on the A-team was first year Billy Peterson with a total weekend score of 160.
There were some highlights from the B-team in the tournament as well. Junior Gunnar Goodmanson finished with a career best 36-hole score of 154, putting him in a tie for 40th. Senior David Walker finished just outside the top half of competitors in a tie for 62nd with a 158 total on the weekend.
The men’s team has a good problem on their hands in trying to solidify their team, with multiple golfers that could step in and compete at a high level. Look for another strong finish from the Auggies at the MIAC Championships next weekend.
