On April 16, the U.K. Supreme Court decided that the “concept of sex is binary, a person is either a woman or a man.” Which is just wrong, sex is decided by a doctor based on the two most common physical presentations of humans. In other words intersex people exist and there is no controlling nature based on man-made definitions — though it seems the U.K. Supreme Court is trying to do that.
The court really stressed that their ruling was only in regards to anti-discrimination laws and not about the validity of transgender identities. However, when commenting on this, the U.K. government said that this ruling will bring clarity to women, sport clubs, women’s refuges and hospitals. All things that relate to whether or not trans women are women and don’t have to do with the larger trans community.
Maybe that is because the court case that the Supreme Court was deciding on was a case brought forward by For Women Scotland (FWS). This case had gone through two Scotland courts that said the Equality Act had no indication of being based on biological sex, meaning the group appealed up to the Supreme Court. Because when the Supreme Court makes a ruling, that ruling will interpret the law for all courts under them. FWS has a very public relationship with J.K. Rowling, an outspoken trans-exclusionary radical feminist (TERF) who has donated 70,000 euros to the group’s crowdfunding campaign. Wonder where all that money came from…
Now, of course, the world has been very aware of Rowling’s hate of trans women in particular for years. To be specific, this conversation started in March of 2018, seven years ago. How have people not gotten with the program? Stop giving this woman money!
Oh, I’m sorry — is there a new Harry Potter show coming out and the casting is so controversial you just have to talk about it? No, you don’t, what you are doing is encouraging people to watch the show, which gives her money. Also, so sorry if Harry Potter was your childhood but, because of its creator, trans children don’t get a childhood. They get demonized, targeted and blamed for all the problems of the patriarchy.
And you know what? This is a horrible court case that is showing the global rise of fascism and has terrible implications for not just trans people in the U.K. — my heart goes out to them — but for transgender people all over the world. According to the Williams Institute website, in America alone trans people are four times more likely to be victims of violent crimes.

So, maybe everyone could choose a different property to focus on. Instead of going to Harry Potter World, go to Isle of Berk, it’s cooler. Read some new books, you’ll probably like “Percy Jackson” or, my personal recommendation, “The Sunbearer Trials.” Watch a new movie, “Flow” is absolutely beautiful. It is amazing how many absolutely wonderful creative things there are to discover that don’t give money to a harmful angry woman.
Stop being a boring performative ally and do something. Or at least leave J.K. Rowling’s basic, overhyped, harmful franchise in the past.
