Recently, Augsburg has gained a team of awesome leaders, passionate about dance, who want to give a dedicated space to everyone who shares the same passion as them, or even anyone who wants to give it a try. They are Art In Motion, the new dance organization that started off last spring, and are starting the semester with amazing classes of jazz, heels, and many other diverse styles. The dancers all share the same goal: to encourage everyone to try dance, build a community and have a great time together.
It all started when the group’s President Lilly Truebenbach and Vice President Yassir Ali attended an event together and realized that Augsburg had expanded the art community in many different ways and directions in the past years but was missing something: movement and dance. Augsburg needed a space where everyone could dance and grow both as dancers and individuals.
This outstanding opportunity is open to all students looking to expand their dance skills, perform and/or choreograph dance pieces. Weekly rehearsals are held in the Green Room of Foss, a space where students can practice comfortably with skilled dance teachers from the Augsburg community. With a lot of effort, they have managed to bring amazing choreographers, friends and people who love dance and want to teach their knowledge and support the community. But one of the things that makes this organization special is that whether or not you have taught before, anyone can come and teach.
As Halloween approaches, they are hosting a Halloween workshop that combines hip hop and heels. A perfect chance for those who want to learn more about those styles and celebrate Halloween with music and dance! Apart from that, they are hoping to bring more choreographers and have a set schedule soon. At the end of the semester, they are planning to organize an incredible showcase where students will be able to show their choreography and what they have learned during the semester. All students need are comfortable shoes and clothes, a water bottle, and to be excited to dance!

Ali tells us how he loves the community that is starting to grow. In a world where many tragic things are happening every day, community is something that is always there and helps us get through life. Dance is a feeling that Ali cannot explain but describes as a sense of freedom and an ability to express to the world. He states that “dance is a place where you are free of judgment; the only thing that matters [is] just how your body moves and feels through the air.”
Art in Motion is a community that is expanding and excited to see everyone grow. This is an opportunity open to all students of all ages and bodies and can be an excellent chance for all the people who want to try new styles and have fun!
