The men’s hockey team picked up a win and a tie against former national champion St. Norbert this weekend. They won 6-5 in overtime on Friday and tied 3-3 on Saturday, raising their unbeaten streak to eight games.

In game one of the series, the Auggies fell behind early in the first period against the number-three Green Knights but were able to tie it up three minutes later when Alex Rodriguez netted his first goal of the night. St. Norbert scored another goal later in the first, but Augsburg was able to answer once again on a goal by Tommy Carey, assisted by Luke Dietsch and Matt Hines.

The Auggies opened up scoring early in the second period as Austin Martinsen scored a goal 27 seconds in from Matt Nehls. They added another at the three-minute mark on a goal from Patrick O’Connor with assists going to Chandler Madry and Jason Krych. The Auggies scored their third unanswered goal when Eric Brenk lit the lamp off of an assist by Rodriguez, giving the Auggies a 5-2 lead. St. Norbert would score a goal late in the second and follow it up with two in the third to force OT. Rodriguez was able to find the back of the net in overtime, his second of the game, securing the 6-5 OT win. Nick Schmit had 38 saves and improved his record to 5-0-1.

Game two saw the Auggies take the lead during the first period when Luke Dietsch scored the first goal of the game off of assists from Brenk and Patrick O’Connor. The Green Knights were able to tie it up at one before Jake Larson netted his first goal of the night. St. Norbert ended the first period in a 2-2 tie. St. Norbert added a goal in the second and led the game 3-2 before Luke Dietsch lit the lamp in the third period to tie it 3-3 and force overtime once again. Neither team could score the decisive goal in the OT period and the score ended in a tie.

The number-five Auggies will travel to St. Scholastica on Saturday to close out 2018.
