Maggie Lile, defensive specialist and libero for the Augsburg Volleyball team, continues to make an impact on the world of volleyball through her endless positivity and talent. Her recent accolades include 27 digs in a game against Lawrence on Aug. 30, 24 digs and seven aces against Wisconsin La Crosse on Sept. 5, and 24 digs against Wisconsin Superior on Sept. 19. At this point in the season, she sits at 173 digs, which lands her at the top of the list for season digs.

Maggie is definitively not new to the world of volleyball, having played since she was nine years old. “I played other sports during this time, too, like basketball and soccer, [but] soon after starting, volleyball became my favorite [sport] of all time.” She went on to talk about the main influence in her early career. “I had an amazing coach in my foundational years who taught me so much […] She really developed my skills, confidence and love for the game, which pushed me to pursue volleyball at the collegiate level.”

When asked about her experience on the Augsburg team, Maggie said, “coming into freshman year of college is really scary, but coming in with teammates who support you and cheer you on makes it so much better.” She noted that the team has a culture of community, explaining that being on a team creates a “family” of sorts. “This is especially true [now], as our program has gone through major coaching changes for the past three years in a row. We are really good at supporting and appreciating each other, even through difficult times.” She goes on to say that “being on the team has been one of the most important parts of [her] college experience so far.”

“There have been days where it has all felt so overwhelming or I wasn’t sure if I was going to stick it out. But, the huge moments on the court, the laughs during practice and in the locker room and the relationships I’ve built with my teammates have made it all so worth it.” Through all of the struggles and triumphs, Maggie continues to work hard, and feel proud of that work.

Looking towards the future, the team is gearing up for their big goal: winning the MIAC conference championship. “I think something feels different this year, and we have a chance to really show up.”

Maggie had some to say on the topic of fans. “Volleyball is all about momentum, so we are always looking for more fans! The season can go by really fast, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to come support!” Check out Maggie Lile and the rest of Augsburg Volleyball this Friday, Oct. 3, as they take on Carthage College and Washington University in St. Louis, or catch them live in Si Melby Hall on Oct. 15 for their game against Hamline University!
