The Augsburg Women’s Ice Hockey team opened up the 2017–2018 campaign with a 1-1 split in their two games played over last weekend. The team had a close 3-2 loss in their home opener against the College of St. Scholastica. They followed the loss with a strong 6-1 thumping of Marian University, and this game also took place at home.

Senior Megan Robertson began the scoring for the season tallying her first goal at the 10:50 mark of the second period off of a rebound of a shot by junior Megan Johnson. The Auggies went on to go up 2-1 later in the game after a goal scored by sophomore Bridget Wagner on an unassisted breakaway shot.

St. Scholastica went to score twice in a 37-second span to take the lead for good and secure the victory. The game winner came courtesy of a power play goal from Alexia Klass at the 9:12 mark of the second period. The loss came despite a 41-21 shooting advantage by Augsburg.

The victory over Marian came by way of five different Auggies getting in on the scoring. Wagner continued where she left off in the first game by scoring a pair of goals in this contest, giving her three early in the season. Junior transfer Kayla Murray and freshman Kalli Precker recorded their first goals as Auggies. Robertson scored her second goal of the season followed by sophomore Mikayla Jones recording her first goal to close out the game.

The victory gave the team one win and one loss to start the season. They will get a break this weekend and then start MIAC play with a series against Bethel on the weekend of Nov 10–11. They will play at home on Friday, Nov 10. At 7 p.m.
