The men’s basketball team began their season last Saturday with a win over Northland College, defeating the Lumberjacks 91-76.

Making the long trek to Ashland, Wisc., the Auggies got off to a hot start to the 2018 campaign. They took a 47-28 lead into the half primarily because of nine first-half three-pointers. Augsburg shot 50 percent from the field on the night. They also got to the free throw line 23 times, converting on 78 percent of their chances while holding Northland to just five attempts. They also hit on 57.9 percent from beyond the three-point line.

Booker Coplin had a game to remember, posting a double-double on the night. He scored 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting while grabbing 14 rebounds. He also led the team with five assists. Coplin was one of four Auggies to score in double figures. Kevin McKiernan scored 21 points with Martin Mitchell and Henry Mulligan putting up 14 and 12 points respectively.

The Auggies will continue their season at the University of Redlands Classic this weekend in Redlands, Calif. They will play two non-conference games out west, the first against Ottawa University (Ariz.) and the second against University of Redlands. Augsburg will open MIAC play Wednesday the 28th when they take on Carleton College in their home opener.
