Swim and dive sees success at Tomcat Invite

John Kipper, Staff Writer

It’s been a busy winter for the Augsburg swim and dive team, they most recently competed at the Tomcat Invite hosted by the University of St. Thomas. While no team scores were kept, it was overall a very successful day for the Auggies, highlighted by a win from sophomore swimmer Morgan Mangel in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.09, just 0.88 behind the school record she set last year.

For the divers, junior Cassie Lehman placed third in the one-meter dive and fourth in the three-meter dive. In the one-meter, Lehman scored 206.4,5 and in the three-meter, she had a score of 202.85. Currently, she holds several of the highest scores in school history in both of these events.

Junior Mary McSharry placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 1:05.53. The time was also the ninth-fastest in school history. In the 100-yard freestyle, she finished 11th with a time of 1:01.56.

First-year Kristin Kaldahl was the only Auggie to compete in the 200-yard freestyle and finished 10th with a season-best time of 2:28.83. Fellow first-year Julia Bishop found success in a multitude of events, garnering top-ten finishes in all four events she swam in: the 400-yard individual medley (sixth), the 200-yard butterfly (seventh), the 100-yard butterfly (eighth) and the 100-yard backstroke (ninth). Her times were 5:27.72, 2:37.77, 1:10.97 and 1:11.27, respectively. Up next for the auggies, is a dual meet hosted by the University of Minnesota Morris.
