The Augsburg men’s hockey team took on St. John’s last week, playing to a 2–2 draw on Thursday and a 5–1 win on Friday.
In the opening game of the series, the Auggies scored first on a goal by John O’Connor 18 minutes into the first period. Assists on the O’Connor goal went to Tommy Carey and Alex Rodriguez. The lead did not last long, as 10 seconds later the Johnnies tied it up at one. St. John’s scored again four minutes into the second to take a 2-1 lead. The Auggies tied it up at two halfway through the second with an Austin Dollime goal. After two scoreless overtime periods, the two teams went to a shootout, with St. Johns claiming the bonus point for winning the three-round shootout 2–0.
The Auggies again scored first in the second game of the series, but this time it was Rodriguez scoring halfway through the first period with assists from Chandler Madry and O’Connor. Less than a minute into the second period, Austin Martinsen added another goal for the Auggies with assists by Matt Nehls and Austin Dollimer. Jason Krych also found the back of the net with less than a minute left in the second to take a 3–0 lead. St. John’s scored once early in the third, but two late Auggie goals by Carey and Gavin Holland put the game away and gave the Auggies a 5–1 victory.
The team is off for the weekend before hosting Concordia-Moorhead to end the regular season.
