The Auggies had a strong first half against Aurora University, the number-two team in the conference, as Augsburg trailed 4–3 at halftime. After halftime, the Auggies struggled to slow down Aurora’s offense and finished the game, losing 11–6. Team goal leaders Allie Tuccitto and Mikayla Jones both scored two goals to up their totals to 28 and 22 respectively.
Against Benedictine University on Saturday, the Auggies battled to a 10–7 halftime advantage before cruising to a 11–3 second-half score on their way to a demanding 21–10 win. Christina Nelson was a massive catalyst in the Auggies’ dominance as she set a new school record with 15 draw controls. Again, Tuccitto and Jones led the scoring with four and three goals respectively, while junior Annika Hegrenes and sophomore Megan Furlong both added three goals to the scorebook for the Auggies.
Sophomore goalie Maddie Seykora was a rock in the net, recording 15 saves for the Auggies. Seykora is having an outstanding season, ranking top-10 in the MWLC in saves (third), save PCT (third), goals against (ninth) and goals against average (seventh).
After a huge win over Loras College on Tuesday afternoon, the Auggies will wrap up their season this weekend with their final MWLC game on Saturday at Wisconsin-Concordia, a game with major playoff implications. They then travel on Sunday for their regular season finale against UW-River Falls.
