Women’s Basketball Travels to West Coast

The No. 14-Ranked women’s basketball team traveled to Oregon and Washington over Thanksgiving Break to play a pair of non-conference games. The Auggies experienced a setback in the first contest, losing to the University of Puget Sound 74-51 in Tacoma Washington, but later defeated Lewis & Clark College 78-50 in Portland, Oregon. The Auggies’ ended their road trip with a 6-1 record – good for 1st in the MIAC.
In the first contest, the Auggies were held to a season low shooting effort in the loss at the University of Puget Sound. The Auggies shot only 24.6 percent (15-of-61) for the game, while Puget Sound shot 49.1 percent (26-of-53) from the field. The Auggies had nice contributions by many on offense, such as Kaezha Wubben, who was very efficient, scoring her season-best 12 points while going 5-for-7 from the field in just 15 minutes of action. Tamira McLemore finished with a team-best 14 points and five rebounds.
In the 2nd non-conference matchup vs. Lewis & Clark College, the Auggies were able to get back on track. The Auggies jumped out to an impressive 22-3 first quarter lead and were able to stretch their lead to 39-14 at halftime. McLemore scored 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting and added a season-best six steals in just 21 minutes. Aiza Wilson was on fire, scoring all of her points from beyond the arc, finishing 4-of-7 for 12 points. Cam Speese and Wubben both added 10 points apiece for the Auggies.
Augsburg returns to action on Saturday (12/7) at 5:00 p.m. hosting Carleton College in a MIAC doubleheader at Si Melby Hall.
