Auggie Athletics Face Postponements

Greg Miller, staff writer

Augsburg sports have seen their fair share of cancelations and postponements since starting back up this winter with teams all around the MIAC having positive COVID tests. Whether it be a true positive or not, the results seem to send shockwaves through competition schedules in all sports.

This comes as no surprise as every league that has attempted to come back during the pandemic has seen it, including major professional sports leagues like the NBA, NFL and even the English Premier League.

The Auggie men’s basketball team has seen six changes to its schedule, having four games postponed, one moved up in date and one changing location. They play next on Sunday, Feb. 21 against Hamline and then again on the 22 against St. Mary’s.

Auggie women’s basketball has seen two games canceled and another three postponed. They take action again on Feb. 23 and 24 with back-to-back games against Hamline and Bethel.

The Men’s hockey has three postponed games after starting 4-0 and will get back underway Feb. 25 when they hit the ice against St. Johns.

Augsburg Women’s hockey has had one game canceled as well as another five postponed. The team comes back on Feb. 25 when they take on Gustavus, a rematch of last year’s MIAC Championship game.

Men’s wrestling has had three meets canceled and is scheduled to return to action soon with meets Feb. 19 and 28.

Even with all these cancelations, athletics has continued to do its best to safely practice and compete during this pandemic. Even though you cannot be there in person, you can support your fellow Auggies by watching athletic events through the Augsburg Athletics website.
