The Augsburg volleyball team continued their strong start to the season at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Tournament with 3-1 wins over the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Lakeland University.

The win over the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh was a hard-fought, back and forth match. The Titans took the first set 25-22 before the Auggies won each of the last three by scores of 26-24, 25-20, and 25-23, respectively.

Oshkosh led by multiple points in every set, but Augsburg was able to rally for the win in each of the last three sets. Kayla Gjerde led the Auggies with 15 kills, Lexie Lang recorded 45 assists to lead the game, and Maddie Nierengarten and Angel Khang led the game with 12 digs each.

Augsburg had an easier time against Lakeland, beating the Muskies 25-20, 25-15, 25-22, 22-19.  The Auggies got out to a 7-0 lead in the first set after the Muskies committed five straight errors and coasted to an easy win in the set. Augsburg came back from an early 6-2 deficit in the second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match.  After dropping the third set, the Auggies were able to survive a nine-point run by Lakeland in the fourth set to finish off the match.

Several Auggies have shone so far this season with multiple Auggies among the conference leaders in several statistical categories.  Jade Fullerton is fourth in the MIAC with a .328 hitting percentage and second in the conference with 1.05 blocks per set. Lang is tied for fourth in service aces per set with 0.5.

Augsburg, who is currently 7-4 on the season and has won four straight games, received votes in the AVCA Women’s DIII Volleyball Coaches Poll that was published on Tuesday, September 21.  They were in the top 25 earlier in the season and could make their way back into the national rankings with a strong effort at the Wartburg Invitational in Waverly, Iowa this weekend.

The Auggies will face Coe College and Wartburg College on Friday evening before finishing against Augustana College (Ill.) on Saturday at noon.
