With the winter sports seasons coming to an end, the Augsburg spring sports teams are preparing for their upcoming seasons. Spring sports have already started their practices with games on the horizon along with the warm weather. The spring sports this season are Mens and Womens Track & Field, Baseball, Softball and Lacrosse.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do,” Augsburg baseball head coach Keith Bateman told the Echo about his aspirations for the upcoming season. “We were a very inexperienced team last year. That inexperience showed in close ball games. I’m excited to see the guys raise their level of play this year.”

Even though last season was not the outcome that the team wanted, ending with an 8-26 record, it sounds like the experience that they gained last season will pay off this new spring season. “Right now, our goal is to get double-digit wins in our first 17 ball games,” said Bateman. “After that, we’ll sit down and set another short-term goal. Ultimately, we are hoping to build up to a playoff run.”

Bateman believes in the team’s potential for the upcoming season. “The boys work hard, and they love playing baseball,” said Bateman. “On the field, they compete and should be fun to watch. I feel like we will surprise some people in the MIAC this year.”

The Womens Lacrosse team is coming off of a 5-6 season last year and looks to improve upon that record this season. “I’m looking forward to working with a mostly new team, and seeing how much we can accomplish this season,” lacrosse head coach Kathryn Knippenberg told the Echo about the upcoming season. Even though this team is new, their expectations for themselves have only grown and their goals are still set high. “Our goals are to make the conference playoffs, grow as a team and individuals every day, and get the AQ to the national tournament,” said Knippenberg. “Don’t underestimate us.”
