Poem “After”

After

Annabella Castillo, contributor

Sometimes I wonder

what paradise might feel like.

Is it all golden,

sunny skies,

the world so blue you can hardly stand it?

Or is it laughter,

a smile on their face,

burning cheeks,

ribs aching,

blissful contentedness?

Is it an endless,

sparkling,

vast and mysterious

sea?

Waiting for you

to explore and discover

everything

that’s hidden?

Or is it

empty

dark

peaceful

the final rest.

Whatever it is,

i hope it quells

this

ache

inside of me

I wrote this poem while thinking about the afterlife and what “heaven” might look like to different kinds of people. Life can be inherently painful, and sometimes it helps to let yourself feel your existential concerns.
