After playing four seasons with the Augsburg Mens Golf team, senior Stellan Orvick has hit his last par. Throughout his career, Orvick has guided the future stars of this team. His journey has been nothing short of extraordinary with his series of accolades, personal records and awards obtained over the years.

On April 13 and 14, at the Augsburg Spring Invitational Meet at Keller Golf Club, Orvick finished in a tie for second out of 47 golfers by scoring a total of 140 (74-66) in 36 holes. His overall score of 140 and 66-stroke day two of the tournament are both ranked third out of all single rounds and 36-hole rounds respectively in school history since the 1994-1995 season. Orvick was one stroke shy of the single round school record of 65 set in 2008 by Tony Vanyo and Harrison Cooper in 2017. He was four strokes shy of the 36-hole school record of 136 set in 2017 by Cooper. Orvick’s stellar play helped lead his team to a second place finish.

Fans saw Orvick shine after making two-over-par overall at the tournament which is close to the single best round in the history of Augsburg’s Mens Golf team.

On April 20 and 21, Orvick’s talent earned him his second medalist honor at the Gustavus Adolphus Bobby Krig Invitational held in Le Sueur, Minnesota. Orvick tied for first place in a field of 84 golfers and finished 36 holes with a total of 143 (70-73) strokes. Fans saw Orvick shine after making two-over-par overall at the tournament which is close to the single best round in the history of Augsburg’s Mens Golf team. His efforts were six strokes shy of the school record of 137, which was set in 2017 by Harrison Cooper. Orvick’s performance at the tournament solidified his team-leading stroke average of 73 on the season. His 143 finish is ranked 12 out of all 36-hole rounds in school history and third best personally.

Orvick is undoubtedly one of the best golfers to come through the program. He currently sits at second all-time on the school’s career stroke average list with 75.25. With one tournament to go, he sits between Brett Buckingham (74.88) and Brett Gaustad (75.33). Orvick is currently sitting at a single season stroke average of 74.6. If he finishes with that stroke average, it will be the fourth-best single season performance in the modern era of Augsburg Mens Golf (1994-present). Orvick’s personal best 36-hole performance of 142 set on April 10, 2022, is the fifth best in school history. His personal best 54-hole performance of 216 set on Sept. 12, 2021, is tied for second best in school history.

As Orvick’s collegiate career comes to an end, one thing is certain: his passion for golf, combined with his drive for success, will continue to inspire the program for the future. He will finish his career after this article has been published at the St. John’s University Invitational on April 27 and 28 where he looks to put his final marks on the Augsburg history books.
