Poem “Winter Flower”

Christine Horner, copy editor

for Fiorella

Not missing the sticky breath
summer heaves across the grass,
but rather,
loving the glittering ground
frozen over, its flora locked
tight inside an icy cage.
"Keep it shut," says I,
"I want the embrace,
the bitter hug,
the prickly kiss
that winter brings.
I will meet her lips
before spring is here."
