The Augsburg University Women’s Volleyball team crossed the border into Wisconsin last weekend to take part in the UW-Eau Claire Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament. Unfortunately, the Auggies came away empty handed as they were defeated in three hard fought matches.
The first game for Augsburg was against UW-Stevens Point. A thriller that went all five sets, the Auggies put together their second-best blocking performance of the season recording 18.5 team blocks, but they committed too many attack errors to overcome a talented Pointers squad, losing 2-3. Offensively, seniors Jordan Weeding and Taylor Linn along with sophomore Ellie Schwartz all posted 11 kills apiece. Defensively, Macey Terhell picked up 30 digs, her second 30- plus dig performance of the season. Junior setter Morgan Malley dished out 47 assists on the night as well.
The second game of the tournament came against UW-River Falls, and the Auggies fell to the Falcons 3-1. Offensively, the Auggies struggled to find their rhythm. Jordan Weeding and First Year Corrina Evans recorded 10 and 11 kills respectively. Once again, Macey Terhell led Augsburg defensively with 17 digs. Sophomore Sydnie Zachary took over the setting duties for an injured Morgan Malley and dished out 29 assists.
The third game was against host UW-Eau Claire. The BluGolds took it to the Auggies in this one by winning in three straight sets. Taylor Linn led the Auggies with 11 kills. Macey Terhell once again paced the Auggies defensively with 14 Digs. Sydnie Zachary handed out 33 assists in the match. Macey Terhell now leads the MIAC in both overall digs (424) and digs per set (5.44). She was also named to the all-tournament team.
Augsburg returned home to defeat St. Ben’s in four sets on Oct. 11th, and a huge matchup follows against the University of St. Thomas on Homecoming Saturday.
