The Augsburg University Women’s Swim and Dive team began their season on Friday, Oct. 13 at the Macalester College Pentathlon. Junior Maddie Moser had Augsburg’s best finish by placing third in the one-meter diving competition. Her six-dive score of 181.70 is the eighth-best score in the event in program history. Morgan Mangel, a freshman, had an impressive debut finishing sixth in the 100-yard freestyle in 58.52 seconds. She also finished 11th in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:10.44. Junior Mary McSharry was right on Mangel’s heels, finishing just half a second behind at 1:10.99, good for 13th in the event. McSharry also competed in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing 11th. Junior Carli Kirchoff and freshman Lindsey Luke each tallied a 15th- and 16th-place finish in their races as well.

The Auggies were back at it again a couple of weeks later, this time competing at the St. Thomas relays on Saturday, Oct. 21. Moser once again led the Auggies with two top-ten finishes. Building off her strong performance at Macalester, Moser recorded the third best score in program history with a 196.65 six-dive score in the three-meter diving competition, finishing third in that event. She also placed seventh in the one-meter diving competition. Her 191.55 was the sixth-best score in program history for the one-meter dive.

Augsburg competed in five relays at St. Thomas, led by a seventh-place finish in the 300-yard backstroke. Kirchoff, Mangel, first year Selma Erickson and sophomore Autumn Francois put together a time of 3:28.95 in the event. The 400-yard freestyle relay of senior Marissa Stewart, Kirchoff, McSharry and Mangel finished ninth. The 800- yard freestyle relay of Mangel, Kirchoff, Erickson and McSharry finishing tenth.

The Auggie’s next competition is on Nov. 4 at the Hamline Invitational.
