Softball hits it out of the dome

Augsburg Women’s Softball started 5-1 in MIAC play last week with all six games being played in the climate controlled dome over Edor Nelson Field.

The Auggies started with a sweep of Carleton, winning by scores of 2-0 and 8-4. Nell Gehrke led the way in game one with a two-run home run while Sam Anderson got her sixth win of the season, going seven shutout innings. In game two, two triples by Anesia King and Sam Anderson led the Auggies to five runs in the sixth for the sweep against Carleton. Morgan Malley pitched six innings for her third win of the season.

Next was a double header against Bethel. The first game went to the Royals as they scored five in the sixth to come from behind and beat the Auggies 7-5. Augsburg was led by Katie Parker who went 2-4 with a double and two RBI. The Auggies responded like all good teams do and handily beat the Royals in game two by a score of 12-2 in five innings. Shannon Dale and Anderson both collected four RBI in the contest with Dale hitting a three-run homer in the third. Malley got her fourth win of the season, only giving up four hits.

The Auggies finished the week with a sweep of Macalester, winning 10-5 and 6-4. Anesia King led the way in game one going 3-3 with four RBI, a triple and two walks. Sam Anderson continued her dominance, picking up her seventh win of the season. Game two went down to the wire, but the Auggies prevailed as they scored three in the sixth, two coming off of a Parker home run, to come back and defeat the Scotts. Anderson grabbed her eighth win of the season coming on in relief.

Augsburg is now 13-9 overall and 5-1 in the MIAC. They play two more double headers in the dome against Gustavus and St. Thomas before hopefully going outside to play St. Kate’s.
