Baseball takes on Macalester

Jackson Gerber, Staff Writer

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. That’s what the Augsburg Baseball team did when they played Macalester last week when they traveled all the way to Woodside Sports Complex in Mauston, Wisc., to play in a neutral site doubleheader against the Scots last week.

The Scots got out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Auggies tied it up in the third on a sacrifice fly by Keane Turner. Macalester then scored one in the top of the fourth and then hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh to secure the 7-2 win. Dayton Danielson took the loss for the Auggies as he pitched his third complete game of the season.

The Auggies took a 2-1 lead through three innings as Jordan DeCroock scored on an RBI single by Mike Brookshaw who later scored on an RBI double by Keane Turner. The Scots answered with two in the fourth inning and four in the eighth to take a 7-2 lead going into the final frame. Augsburg scored three more in the top of the ninth off of a bases loaded walk and a two run single by Cam Erikson, but it was not enough as Macalester won 7-5 to get the sweep. Jamie Kaye took the loss in 7.2 innings of work.

The Auggies are scheduled for a lot of games coming up, but with the unpredictable weather, keep an eye on the Auggie Athletics website and social media accounts for updates.
