Review: Lucky Dragon Restaurant and Hungry Students is a Good Combination

Yasmin Lopez, contributor

Looking to treat yourself after stressful midterms? Want a delicious and affordable hot meal? Lucky Dragon is the restaurant for you. Located just a few blocks from campus, I was able to have a nice meal there this past Friday.

The first thing that stood out to me as I entered the restaurant was its decorations, especially the red throughout its interior. I also noticed that they had a fish tank with koi fish and many green plants. Since I am from a tropical country, I cherished the warmth that I felt from the physical restaurant so much.

There was a variety of Vietnamese and Chinese dishes on the menu. Looking through it, I was inclined to order Pho due to the cold weather. Instead, I decided to order one of their appetizers: dragon cream cheese wontons. Each order comes with six wontons made of cream cheese wrapped in wonton skin, deep fried and served with sweet and sour sauce. As an enthusiast for fried food, I was genuinely excited to try them. They were crisp on the outside but soft on the inside because of the cream cheese, and the sweet and sour sauce made the taste so good all together. The wontons were very filling but I enjoyed them so much that I ate too many before my main meal.

For my main dish, I ordered the chicken combination. It is made up of fried rice, sweet and sour chicken and an egg roll. The sweet and sour chicken was so crisp on the outside and moist on the inside, and the sauce was the perfect thing to top it off. I also liked how the fried rice tasted when mixed with some of the sauce. On its own, the rice was firm and well seasoned. The egg roll was also a welcome side to this meal, as it was so flavourful and crunchy. Overall, this meal was a chef’s kiss combination! My meal also came with enough food that I was able to take home some of it and enjoy it as another meal.

I highly encourage Augsburg students to check out Lucky Dragon. It is an excellent option if you want a good meal in a comfortable place. The food was also great for its price, especially for college students on a budget. It is a great place to treat yourself to a delicious meal and it will definitely become one of my favorite places to eat in the Riverside neighborhood!

Located at 1827 Riverside Ave., Lucky Dragon is open 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 12-10 p.m. on Saturdays. Make sure to stop by. I know I will definitely be revisiting.
