A Warm Return: A Review of Kafe Kafeega On Campus

Luís Escobar, staff writer

Since the start of the pandemic, students looking for a place to get their coffee fix on campus have had limited options. Kafe Kafeega’s storefront was shuttered until Nov. 14. Amid the dreariness of the day with snow piling up everywhere from the roads to the paths around campus, Kafe Kafeega had its reopening. Now, students are lining up to get a brighter start to their day.

Kafe Kafeega is located on the second floor of Hagfors, next to the skyway to enter Lindell Library. Open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, it’s a great place to hangout, study and warm up as winter finally approaches. Kafe Kafeega itself is small, but often less is more! It really adds to the overall atmosphere of it being our local, on-campus café, and students really get a sense of what it means to be a part of the Augsburg community.

Everything they offer from their teas and coffee to their pastries is put on display so you know exactly what your options are when you order. I felt very reassured knowing exactly what was going into my food and what was available. This made the ordering process super smooth, especially with the added bonus of a shorter wait time than the other coffee place on campus, Einstein Bros Bagels.

After waking up early to snow and cold weather, their coffee was a great pick-me-up. It may be hard to believe, but I am not a coffee person. However, after ordering a caramel macchiato, I will definitely be back for more. Some have said that it’s better than the coffee made at Einsteins and I totally agree! The macchiato was sweet and rich, but just a little bitter to keep me more awake. I could tell it was made with care and consideration.

To compliment the caramel macchiato, I also tried a brownie which I highly recommend. Its sweet and chocolatey taste countered the bitterness of the macchiato perfectly. The brownie also appeared to be freshly baked and tasted just as good. Each brownie was  wrapped separately to ensure that they were warm and didn’t dry out at the counter, which was another touch that I appreciated.

If you are ever looking to grab a quick coffee and Einsteins is too busy, head over to Kafe Kafeega. I may have only ordered two items, but there’s a reason Kafe Kafeega is already popular: everything they have to offer is great! The staff makes sure that all orders are made with a care that has many students, including myself, coming back for more. Whether you’re looking for a place to hang out or study, or need a quick drink or snack on the go, Kafe Kafeega has options for everyone. Make sure to stop by the next time you’re in Hagfors!
