Artist Spotlight: Percy Bartelt

My name is Percy Bartelt (he/him), and I’m a third year film and new media student, and all-around artist in my spare time. I’ve tried all sorts of creative hobbies at least once and have yet to find one I don’t enjoy! One that stands out the most to me though is film — it’s why I decided to major in it too. Diving deeper into film I discovered my love and passion for documentary filmmaking — which is surprising even to me because I love fiction storytelling, but in a way this too is storytelling. The telling of a true story, and it’s just all about how you decide to execute the project. Three of my all time favorite projects I’ve created during my time at Augsburg are “butterfly” (2023), a personal documentary about my experience going on hormone therapy, “community” (2024) another personal documentary about the queer group I started in high school and lastly, “The Creation of Self” (2024) this time is a narrative piece about how trans people are demonized by Christians and their hate is fueled by their religion. I clearly have a topic preference, but I find all the more passion in representing mine and others’ communities. Check out my film instagram! @kickballproductions
