Review: “Poppy Playtime Chapter 4” is a Game No One is Too Old For

On Jan. 30, American indie developer Mob Entertainment released the fourth chapter of “Poppy Playtime.” Since the release of the first chapter back in 2021, fans have been closely following the franchise and were no less than thrilled to see it to have come this far; including myself.
If you’re a fan of “Five Nights At Freddy’s” (FNAF), “Garten of BanBan,” or any other mascot horror then you’ll love “Poppy Playtime.” In the fourth installment you play as the same former employee of Playtime Co. as the other chapters. For those of you who haven’t seen these games, all the chapters take place in the Playtime Co. factory, and in each you’re forced to survive the monstrous creations there. In chapter one you face Huggy Wuggy, chapter two Mommy Long Legs, chapter three, Catnap and with chapter four now introducing a new character; Yarnaby.
The game starts by showing us some old footage of a boy named Jack whose parents have gifted him a visit to the toy factory, Playtime Co., for Christmas. Unfortunately, during their visit Jack dies in a factory “accident,” you know like all kids do in these games. Right after that we pick up where we left off in the last game, alongside Poppy herself. You’re heading down further into the factory as directed by Poppy, in hopes of putting an end to this horror, an end to the Prototype, that is. A villain we have yet to meet. She tells you that down underneath the factory is “not like anything you’ve seen above.” Further adding to the viewers’ anticipation, and fear frankly.
She’s right, there are sooo many new characters we meet in this chapter. From Doughy, to the Doctor, all the way to Yarnaby. He is not only the cutest guy, but the most terrifying. On the surface they look like a big friendly lion made of yarn, but then his head splits down the middle vertically and reveals his mouth! Metal as hell!

Mob Entertainment does an absolutely fantastic job at character creation. The designs of these characters are by far some of my favorites. Huggy Wuggy is for sure my favorite guy, he’s such a weird dude with such flimsy arms that could most certainly kill me. And listen, I don’t care that I’m 21 alright! I love these games and the chapters just keep getting better and better. These developers have managed to create something that’s kept players obsessed and excited for more, just like FNAF has done. It’s so cool to see how far the genre has come, I mean even the animation is spectacular! To take already insanely detailed and terrifying character designs and fully animate them to their fullest potential? Amazing.
I’ve recently gotten my sister, Itzel Osuna, into these games and she wishes she “had the guts to play these games,” and frankly so do I. The world building, the character design, the storytelling and the scares are all soooo immersive, I just love every aspect of them!
All the chapters are available on Steam for anyone to play, and if you’re curious the first chapter is free soooo, you should definitely check it out.
