The Augsburg men’s hockey team enjoyed a highly successful season that earned them a rematch with St. Norbert after a 6-1 defeat ended the Auggie’s season last year. In a much closer contest, the Auggies season came to an end in a 4-3 overtime defeat to the Green Knights in the NCAA Division III national quarterfinal game. St. Norbert’s scored with 6:06 left in overtime to secure the victory.

The Auggies were led by senior Corbin Chapman who figured into the scoring of all three of the team’s goals. Chapman scored twice and added an assist, including a game-tying power- play goal from Luke Dietsch with 5:27 left in the third period. Chapman opened the scoring with a goal from Nate Flynn and Dietsch 8:03 into the game, and assisted on a goal by senior Trevor Stewart at the 11:14 mark of the second period.

Augsburg outshot St. Norbert 34-26 in regulation but was outshot by the Green Knights 7-4 in the overtime period. Sophomore Nick Schmit collected 22 saves in goal for the contest.

This was the team’s second-consecutive appearance in the national tournament and their fourth trip overall. They earned fourth place in both the 1983-84 and 1997-98 seasons. This season they also won the MIAC playoff champion- ship for the second consecutive season and finished second overall in the regu- lar season standings.
