Men’s Basketball falls to Oles

Jackson Gerber, Staff Writer

The Augsburg Men’s Basketball team could not hold off a late St. Olaf run as the Auggies fell to the Oles 68-67 despite a season-high 30 points from Collin Olmscheid.
The Auggies held a 10-point lead with just over three minutes to play, but a 10-0 run by the Oles tied the game up with 55 seconds left. Booker Coplin hit a three on the next possession putting the Auggies up 67-64 with 30 seconds left in the game. The Oles answered right back with a layup to get the game back within one point with 20 seconds remaining. A turnover by the Auggies gave the Oles the ball with 14 seconds left, and they hit the go-ahead and eventual winning layup with 11 seconds remaining in the game. The Auggies had a look at a last-second jumper but it did not fall.
Olmscheid’s 30 points led all scorers in the game. He shot 10-of-17 from the field, hitting 4-of-5 from three-point range and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Olmscheid’s 19.6 points-per-game leads the MIAC as does his 89.9% free throw percentage. Booker Coplin also had a good night from the field, adding 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 4-of-6 from three. He contributed six rebounds and four assists. Harry Sonnie tied a season high with seven assists on the night.
With three games remaining in the regular season, look for the Auggies trying to punch their ticket into the MIAC playoffs.
