Football prepares for a conference stretch
John Kipper, Staff Writer
Three weeks into the season, Auggie football currently has an overall record of 2-1 with a conference record of 0-1. In week one, Augsburg beat Ripon College 31-28 and escaped with a three-point win against Concordia-Wisconsin (27-24). The lone loss was an eye-watering 54-7 defeat at the hands of Concordia-Moorhead.
Offensively, sustaining drives and converting in the red-zone have been the difference between winning and losing in those first few games. The team is currently third in the MIAC with total first downs (61) and has scored during seven of eight trips to the red-zone. Defensively, making stops on third down has been crucial to limiting the opposition’s scoring chances.
The Auggies go on the road this Saturday to play a crucial conference game against St. Olaf. The Oles are 3-0 so far, but those wins have come against Crown College, Luther and Carleton. A victory this week would provide momentum and confidence for the next two games against perennial MIAC powerhouses St. John’s and St. Thomas.
While the upcoming game is in Northfield, you can still livestream the game for free from the Augsburg Athletics website. Kickoff is at 1 p.m..
