Men’s soccer kicks into new season

Joe Rydel, Sports Editor

The men’s soccer team has started the season with a bit of momentum, winning their first three out of four non-conference games.

The Auggies took down UW-Whitewater, Crown College and the University of Minnesota-Morris earlier in Sept., with their lone loss coming to an impressive UW-Superior team. Augsburg looks to keep this momentum going into MIAC play where they will see a very good field of competition for the remainder of the season.

The team is led by 15th-year head coach Greg Holker, who has played a huge role in revitalizing the program and turning it into a playoff and national contender during his tenure.  The Auggies will also lean on a wide variety of players, both young and old, on both sides of the field to remain contenders in 2018.

The University of St. Thomas and Macalester College prove to be the teams to beat this year as they sit atop the conference in the preseason poll.
