Swim and Dive Splashes Into New Season

The Augsburg swim and dive team started their season at the St. Catherine Pentathlon on Oct. 11. Morgan Mangel led the way with 291.5 individual points. At the St. Thomas Relays on Oct. 18, Mangel, Felix Mjelde, Trinity Boehlke, and Kristin Kaldahl completed the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:47.30 for the Auggies.

Mangel once again led the way at the Hamline University Invitational on Oct. 26, finishing second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.39 seconds. She also recorded the fifth-fastest 50-yard freestyle time in Augsburg history, finishing in 25.69 seconds. Kaldahl completed the 200-yard freestyle in 2:31.40 and the 500-yard freestyle in 6:56.38. Boehlke swam the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke in 1:15.42 and 1:31.80, respectively. Mjelde did the 200-yard individual medley in 3:22.83 and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:46.97. Auggie diver Alyssa Maciewski scored 118.80 points in the one-meter event and 111.40 in the three-meter event.

Mangel tied her season best with another 25.69 second time in the 50-yard freestyle, winning the event for Augsburg. She now holds the school record in the event, at 25.34 seconds, as well as six of the seven fastest times in school history. She also finished third in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:36.14. Boehlke swam the 100-yard backstroke and finished second with a 1:26.71 time, beating her previous best time by five seconds. Maciewski scored 120.00 points in the one-meter event, and fellow diver Patsy Thayieng added 77.20.

The Auggies will be in action again on Nov. 23 at the Gustavus Adolphus College Grace Goblirsch Invitational.
