Men’s Wrestling Continues Success with Michigan Win

The Augsburg men’s wrestling team participated in the Olivet Triangular meet in Olivet, Michigan over the weekend. The team dominated, winning all 10 bouts and six extra matches against Alma College and seven of 10 bouts and 16 extra matches against Olivet.
Of the 10 bouts that Augsburg won against Alma, four (Brady Gross, Tate Torgerson, Tyler Shilson, and Tyler Kim) were won by pins, three (Moses Madimba, Solomon Nielsen, and Nick Rogge) were won by technical falls, one (Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann) was won by major decision, one (Justin Stauffacher) was won by decision and one (Trevor Pearson) was won by forfeit.
Of the six extra matches that Augsburg won against Alma, three (Aedon Overdorfer, Shawn Barth, and Connor Thorsten) were won by pins, one (Charlie Stuhl) was won by technical fall and two (Yim-Leej Yang and Luke Wilson) were won by decision.
Of the seven bouts that Augsburg won against Olivet, one (Tanner Kroells) was won by pin, three (Shilson, Nielsen, and Rogge) were won by technical fall, and three (Charlie Pickell, Gross, and Schwanebeck-Ostermann) were won by decision.
Nielsen and Kim were ranked third and ninth, respectively, in their respective weight classes in the preseason National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III national rankings. Nielsen, who wrestles in the 174-pound weight class, won all three of his matches and improved to 4-0 on the season.
The Auggies have their next meet on Feb. 14 when they will travel up to Moorhead for a dual meet against Concordia.
