On an unsuspecting day this recent March, Marvel Studios released a daring promotional trailer for the highly anticipated new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie, “Avengers: Doomsday.” The reveal trailer was first shown as a bold and exciting 10-hour livestream where several dozen chairs for the actors and actresses involved were shown. 

Luckily for MCU fans with the patience to waste half their day away, several actors have been revealed for the movie which viewers didn’t already guess and the trailer ended with Robert Downey Jr. winking towards the audience! We can hope that’s the only time we’ll see his face, but who are we kidding? No matter how important Doctor Doom’s mask is, in “Avengers: Doomsday” we’ll see Robert Downey Jr.’s face by the 30-minute mark. 

Now let’s talk about all the characters confirmed to be in the film, because it has everyone from the “wait but why would that character be here?” to the “is that the one guy that had twenty three lines of dialogue in that actually kinda good Marvel film from 2022?” Getting the elephant out of the room, the biggest surprise has been the fact that actors from Fox’s original trilogy of “X-Men” films are coming back once again! Sonic’s dad, Captain Picard, Gandalf, as well as Beast, Nightcrawler, Mystique and “WooI’mgonnabemakinganameformyselfhere.” It seems the Fox “X-Men” actors are going to have one more last final send-off before we finally get the brand new MCU “X-Men” adaptation we imagined would happen when Disney bought Fox! Assuming that Marvel doesn’t decide to keep the Fox X-Men as the main MCU X-Men, which is seeming to be more likely than we’re comfortable with.

The cameos don’t stop there though. In a rare partnership between Disney and Nickelodeon, they’ve also announced that beloved characters like SpongeBob Squarepants and Patrick Star will also be hitting the big screen in the film for their own cameo moments. There’s also been recent rumors that a certain eagle-eyed school mascot will be joining the cast in a featured role. 

We also know of several more previously unannounced returning MCU actors that we can expect to see standing in the background — Simu Liu’s decent character Shang Chi, David Harbour’s kinda bland Red Guardian, Paul Rudd’s completely unchanging Ant-Man and Chris Hemsworth’s thoroughly played out Thor are all returning in what will surely be the most ambitious Marvel movie yet.

On Twitter it’s been confirmed that this isn’t the full cast, so keep an eye out for updates if your favorite superhero has yet to be announced. Some characters which fans think will probably make the cut are Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Tom Hanks’ Forrest Gump, Ariana Grande’s Glinda, and, unfortunately, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool. 

Plot details have yet to be released, so your guess is as good as mine as to why Charles Xavier will be fighting Doctor Doom. Given the fact that the Fantastic Four have always been the biggest enemies for Doctor Doom, it’s natural to assume they’ll play a large role in the story. Perhaps Kevin Feige doesn’t even know why all these characters are together. But with this many barely recognizable characters from box office disappointments, how can “Avengers: Doomsday” fail?
